Undergraduate Studies
Montanuniversität occupies a special place in Austria's educational landscape, thanks to its unique focus.
The courses it offers focus on the value-added chain. This starts with the location and extraction of raw materials (e.g. ore, gold, crude oil). The cross-faculty course in "Industrial Energy Technology" looks at how energy can be prepared and used efficiently for industrial processes.
The raw materials provided are then further processed into various materials (iron, copper, aluminium, plastic and much more), in order to create a finished product (e.g. car, mobile phone etc.).
Industrial logistics links the various sectors within the value-added chain.
This cycle ends with the disposal of a product or its recycling and reuse, which falls under the subject of industrial environmental protection.

Doctoral Studies
The purpose of the doctoral programme at Montanuniversität is to further develop students' ability to carry out independent scientific work in the field of mining sciences. In each specialist area, it aims to further develop state-of-the-art knowledge and scientific methods. The end objective is to obtain a holistic and interdisciplinary view of the relevant problem.
Doctoral students are also to be introduced to the critical international professional world as soon as possible. It is expected that their research results will be published in international scientific media before they finish their studies. The programme is therefore used to educate and support up-and-coming scientists.
There is a particular focus on developing students' ability to think in an interdisciplinary fashion, which then means that graduates can function as links and intermediaries between mining science and the other sciences. Suitable employment fields include management activities in industry, business and administration, as well as science, research and development.
